1 John 5:6-13 (HCSB)
6 Jesus Christ—He is the One who came by water and blood; not by water only, but by water and by blood. And the Spirit is the One who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
7 For there are three that testify:
8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and these three are in agreement.
9 If we accept the testimony of men, God’s testimony is greater, because it is God’s testimony that He has given about His Son.
10 (The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. The one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given about His Son.)
11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.
12 The one who has the Son has life. The one who doesn’t have the Son of God does not have life.
13 I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
When Jesus came to earth, God testified (revealed to us) that Jesus was God; that Jesus was the promised Messiah; that Jesus is eternal life.
Jesus was born of a virgin.
Jesus told Nicodemus:
John 3:3-5 (KJV)
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4 Nicodemus said unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man is born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
We must accept the fact that Jesus is God’s Son and that God planted the seed in the Virgin Mary from whom Jesus was born. Then we accept the fact that Jesus died on the cross for our sins (the blood) and rose again from the dead on the third day. Then the Holy Spirit (which appeared at Jesus’ baptism in the form of a dove) dwells in us so that we may walk in the Spirit and live a Godly life.
Jesus Baptism:
Matthew 3:16-17 (HCSB)
16 After Jesus was baptized, He went up immediately from the water. The heavens suddenly opened for Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming down on Him.
17 And there came a voice from heaven: This is My beloved Son. I take delight in Him!
7 For there are three that testify:
8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and these three are in agreement.
Eternal Life
13 I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
Eternal life is more than just living forever – or more than assurance of going to Heaven.
What is eternal life?
Jesus said:
John 17:1-3 (HCSB)
1 Jesus spoke these things, looked up to heaven, and said: Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son so that the Son may glorify You,
2 for You gave Him authority over all flesh; so He may give eternal life to all You have given Him.
3 This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and the One You have sent—Jesus Christ.
We do not have to doubt whether Jesus was the Son of God. Jesus fulfilled ALL of the prophesies. And, while Jesus was on earth, all three parts of the Trinity (The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit) did testify that Jesus was the Messiah.
We need to stop doubting, start growing, and enjoy our eternal life now! Eternal life began the day that you accepted Jesus as your savior. You do not have to wait until you die to enjoy your gift of eternal life.
